NIFEDCU understands it’s crucial to help protect you from account takeover fraud. That’s why we are introducing a new ID proofing measure for in-person visits to our Shared Branch locations. This new fraud prevention measure allows us to make certain it is YOU trying to access your account, not an imposter.

Beginning May 1, 2025, when you visit an out-of-state Shared Branch, tellers will now be able to verify your identity using a secure, multi-factor authentication process. This includes scanning a QR code, accessing a secure website, and entering a one-time passcode sent to your phone. This additional layer of authentication will be used for loan payments, cashier’s checks, deposits, withdrawals, transfers and account inquiries.

How it Works

1. Scan the QR code located in the branch or visit: verify.coop.org
2. Select your credit union’s name from a drop-down list.
3. Enter your member number and the last four digits of your social security number.
4. Upload a photo of your ID.
5. Take a selfie. (Tip: Save your validation for an even quicker experience next time!)
6. Show your one-time passcode to the teller (passcode is valid for 20 minutes).

While this update currently only applies to members using out-of-state Shared Branches, it may be rolled out more broadly in the future. We will definitely keep you updated!

What is IDCheck?

IDCheck Shared Branch is a product to help verify and prove a member's identity to effectively fight account takeover and identity theft for in-branch fraud.

Is every Shared Branch member required to join IDCheck?

As of May 1, 2025, IDCheck is a Co-Op Shared Branch network policy. All members will be required to use IDCheck to verify withdrawal transactions that occur with out-of-state ID's.

What qualifies as an out-of-state ID withdrawal?

An out-of-state withdrawal is one where the ID that a member provides for verification is issued by a state other than the state they are in while completing the shared branch transaction.

How do I access IDCheck?

A visiting member scans the QR code located in Shared Branch Co-op credit unions or they can go to verify.coop.org.

What happens if I don't have a smart phone?

Many credit unions have in branch iPads/Smart Devices that can be used. You will need to contact the Shared Branch that you plan on visiting.

What happens if I don't have an ID?

Visiting members must present valid identification. Please note, IDCheck does not support military ID's due to federal regulations that do not allow federal ID's to be photographed.

What happens if I was previously authenticated and chose to save my validation, but I got a new smart device or an updated ID?

You will need to go through the verification process again. IDCheck correlates verification to the device and ID that was used at the time of authentication.

What information is stored and how is it used?
